Ukrainian design in the Netherlands: arm-chair for the nerds and vases-travelers
Sergey Makhno Architects studio will show its product design at Dutch Design Week. It is the biggest event in the sphere in Northern Europe that gathers more than 2 thousand designers and 300 thousands of visitors from all over the world. It will be held on 20-28 October in Eindhoven.
At the exhibition, the works of the studio will be presented at the common Ukrainian stand that will cover the theme of modernism. Among the product design, which will be shown in the Netherlands, the armchair "Botan" and the collection of vases and lamps "Travellers".
"Botan" was conceived as a lamp, but transformed into a "cache" for eccentrics and book-dependent ones. Sound&visual insulation in a sitting, lying, drawing positions, in a dream.
Someday we will live in a completely different world. “War” and “telephone” will become archaisms. People won't protect their personal space anymore, breakfasts will continue for hours. This world will be built by cranks who don’t accept the way it is now. "Botan" was created specifically for them. It will protect every dream from the interference of the outside world until it becomes a plan.
The set of ceramic vases and lamps “Travellers” traveled for years and absorbed the smallest details of nations, cultures, palettes from the most remote corners of our planet, in order to tell stories known only by them. Everything – made by hand, by one person for another. At the manufacture of the studio, in a single copy.
“It is very important to show the world that Ukrainian design exists. That it is modern and unique. And if several years ago the world looked at us with suspicion, now the Ukrainian stands are in the lenses of all the world media”, – said Sergey Makhno, the founder and the head of the Sergey Makhno Architects studio.
