Sergey Makhno has created a series of vases called The Invariants using materials, familiar to us from childhood, such as concrete and a three-liter jar. The title of the series originates from exact mathematical sciences and means property of the object to remain unvarying upon transformations. Likewise, in our series the form varies but materials remain. Various geometrical forms form basis of the images – they are a square, a rectangle, a circle…, reminding us of urban multistoried buildings, office centers and dormitory areas. Vases, like bricks of a construction kit, are highly urbanized and reflect a modern city, where lone trees against the background of ‘asphalt jungle’ and paved streets look as fresh and contrasting as delicate flower buds against the background of rough concrete. These vases are perfect accessories for the up-to-date minimalist interior and for connoisseurs of simple forms and contrast solutions.
