FRIENDS HOUSE

The perfect place to relax

Scroll down

Type

private house

Location

Kyiv
Ukraine

Area

150 sq.m

Year

2013

A mansion does not need sophisticated solutions if it is intended to become an ideal place for relaxation.

There is nothing excessive or unnecessary in it – a relatively small area (for a two-story building) and a limited budget ensured the most rational approach.

But design is not only functional, it is also emotional.

About the owners

A country house does not need sophisticated solutions if it is intended to be an ideal place to relax. But if its owners love to travel and collect, it will definitely not be boring.

Content

Everything is as simple and organic as possible: painted walls, concrete stairs, wooden ceiling panelling, wooden (second floor) and ceramic tile (ground floor) floors.

Abour ART

Through the huge panoramic windows overlooking the courtyard and the barbecue area, you can see the bronze sculptures by Dmitry Grek that have "burst" inside, becoming an integral part of the interior. Some of his works have found their place in the house, living in perfect harmony with ceramic sculptures by SerhiO Radko and Yuriy Musatov, and artworks by Vlada Ralko, Petro Bevza, and Viktoria Melnychuk.

FRIENDS HOUSE

A country house does not need sophisticated solutions if it is intended to be an ideal place to relax. But if its owners love to travel and collect, it will definitely not be boring. The owners of this house are also old friends of Sergei Makhno and obviously know a lot about art and design. Two floors with a total area of 150 square meters are quite enough to accommodate the essentials: a combined kitchen-living room-dining room, three bedrooms (one on the first floor, two on the second), two bathrooms and several dressing rooms. Even the room for meditation and tea ceremonies, which is more of a whim, found the perfect place here.

FRIENDS HOUSE

Everything is as simple and organic as possible: painted walls, concrete stairs, wooden ceiling panelling, wooden (second floor) and ceramic tile (ground floor) floors. The atmosphere is created by recognizable design and art objects: the iconic sofa and armchair by B&B Italia, Vitra chairs and the 20th-century legend – the Arco floor lamp by Achille Castiglioni. The interior concept is complemented by the Book Table (a glass table with legs made of high-voltage insulators), the Up console and a wooden chest of drawers with a concrete top (all by Makhno Workshop). The kitchen set was made by local craftsmen according to Serhii Makhno’s sketches.

Some of his works have found their place in the house, living in perfect harmony with ceramic sculptures by Serhii Radko and Yurii Musatov, and artworks by Vlada Ralko, Petro Bevza, and Viktoriia Melnychuk. Unique objects and unique works of art give each room its own unforgettable charm, and the tea room impresses in the most unexpected way. All the objects here – a long low ceremonial table, a screen with stained glass floral patterns, burlap pouffes, and rusty iron cubic shelves designed by Serhii Makhno – create that special, unmistakable mood that is unexpectedly perceived as the key creative method of the workshop – “Ukrainian Zen”.
